The way Metro does scheduling is different than other agencies

This looks somewhat similar to how Washington Metro's scheduling is as well. They have multiple lines that compose a single "route". For example, the 7A, 7B, 7C, 7D, 7F, etc. are all separate lines that compose the 70 route (scheduling wise). The paddle's still carry these route numbers from the scheduling software although they have changed to correspond to a new 5 digit route format (ex. 7A, B, etc. would now be under Route 10700.)
